Bizarre footage captured multiple fire companies fighting with police officers in the nation's capital city. The cops were summoned when the rival Heroic and Ceda fire departments began battling each other over who would extinguish a brush fire, reports The Mirror. "One of the groups of firemen started spraying the other group with water, who retaliated by throwing bricks at them," witness Atanasio Rivas Matos, 25, told the newspaper. Police then arrived at the scene -- but instead of cooling things down, they became targets when they tried to separate the firefighters. The video shows some smoke-eaters shoving a few officers, and then one policeman shove back. That ratchets up the tension as the men from different agencies begin to grab one another, and one fireman knees a cop in his midsection. One police officer is knocked to the ground and surrounded by a half-dozen firefighters who have to be pulled away. As they're being pulled back, another fireman can be seen kicking the helpless cop in the head. Another fight appears to start as some men are seen being held back as the video ends. "It was really bizarre," Matos told The Mirror. "It was like something out of a very bad comedy." City officials told the newspaper they were looking into the departments' "appalling behavior." "Instead of behaving like public officials they behaved like children in a playground," a city spokesman said. "An investigation is underway and we will not stop until we have got to the bottom of what went on."
